Cerasuolo di Vittoria Cos 2012

The Cerasuolo di Vittoria by Cos is one of those wines that we like to remember and recommend to the ability to express the potential of a territory, Sicily, and the values of a winery, Cos, founded in 1980 thanks to the passion of three friends: Giambattista, Cirino and Giusto. So the name indicates the initials of the surnames of the three friends, Cilia, Occhipinti and Strano. The basic idea was immediately captivated the audience: retrace the traditions of their ancestors, venturing into a world that can give great satisfaction. Cos is a wine that has been able to do the history of Sicily, a winery that has proposed a different idea of wines; an idea that is based on a great deal of attention to the vineyard, followed in every way to maintain that balance and harmony with nature that they can make the wine to express the depth, the personality and the character of its soils. Cerasuolo di Vittoria was born in an area of ancient wine vocation, with exhibits that speak of wine since the third century b.C.; we are in the South-Eastern Sicily, between Ragusa and Gela, a few kilometers away from the sea. Here, in the locality Bastonaca, 250 meters above sea level and on soils of medium consistency are born and grow lush vineyards of Nero d'Avola and Frappato; the soils are calcareous and siliceous and present in the middle layers of fresh clay and tufa; the vineyards have almost 30 years and Cos vinifies his Cerasuolo in cement tanks before proceeding with aging in oak barrels for the Nero d'Avola and vitrified cement for Frappato. After 18-24 months of rest, we are faced with a Cerasuolo soft and very expressive, fresh and beautiful persistence; a Cerasuolo that offers across the whole range of fruity and floral notes ranging from blackberry currant, rose from rhubarb, to close on recalls of black pepper and tobacco.
