Vitovska Castelvecchio 2021

Castelvecchio's signature Vitovska is a white wine that is dry and mineral at first impact. It is a bottle that reveals the winery's desire to emphasise the area's indigenous grape varieties, thus affirming its identity, rooted in the Friulian Karst. A label that does not require too many words, but rather a curious and attentive gaze, ready to discover a sincere grape that benefits from processing carried out exclusively in steel.

The Vitovska by the Castelvecchio winery originates from those vineyards located within the Karst natural park. Vitovska is in fact an indigenous varietal typical of this area of Friuli. We find ourselves in soils characterised by limestone and red earth, rich in minerals; the climate between the rows of vines is affected by the Bora wind, and is characterised by particular temperature fluctuations between day and night. The grapes obtained after destemming are softly pressed, and the must begins to ferment in stainless steel containers. The production process is completed with a few months in stainless steel, and the wine is then ready to be bottled.

The Vitovska Castelvecchio is revealed to the eye with a concentrated straw-yellow colour. To the nose it has sweet hints of honey, alternating with lighter sensations reminiscent of aromatic herbs. On the palate it is light-bodied, delicate and subtle thanks to a precise sip that flows easily, offering a savoury and fresh flavour. A label that examines a not-so-well-known indigenous Friulian grape variety from the Karst area, capable of surprising those who want to 'expand' their culture when it comes to northern Italian whites. A must-try.
